Every week we want to bring to your attention expository, Gospel-centred sermons from pastors across Canada. We hope that you become familiar with some of the faithful ministers of the word in our nation. We also hope that you will be edified on your daily commute or whenever you listen to these messages. We lastly hope that you learn about the churches where these pastors minister, so that you can easily find Gospel-centered, expository churches in your region.

Rob Godard on “I am The True Vine (P2)” from John 15:1–17 (Surrey)

We are spending another week in one of the most powerful passages in the entire Bible on what it means to follow Jesus.

This passage focuses not only on what it means to abide, but also on the fruit of abiding. Truly knowing the intimacy of being a branch in the vine will yield radical life change. This passage is worth our time to meditate on and delight in – He is the vine: abide in Him, and you will always be fruitful.

Clint Humfrey on “The Cry of the Rockies” from Luke 19:28–40 (Calgary)

In Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, there were those who rejoiced at the Messiah’s arrival. But others rebuked such happy responses. Jesus said that even the stones would cry out in witness to his reign. As our church sends out a church plant to the foot of the Rockies, we know they will rejoice in the Messiah, lest the Rockies cry out.

George Sinclair on “Jesus Truly Died” from John 19:16b–42 (Ottawa)

How do the final words of Jesus compare to the final words of Muhammed and Buddha? Given that so many Jewish men were crucified by the Romans, what makes Jesus’ crucifixion significant? Is it really the case that Jesus died by crucifixion? Isn’t it possible that Jesus and His followers orchestrated the fulfilling of prophecy? Let’s look at these and other questions as we listen and learn from John 19.

Jeff Eastwood on “Community and Renewal” from Ephesians 4:17–24 (Charlottetown)

We are notoriously forgetful, especially of things that we should surely remember. The most basic truths are easily lost if we do not constantly and intentionally keep them foremost in our conscious thought and practice. As Paul moves from discussing unity to purity he calls the Ephesian believers to continually renew their minds, remembering Who called them and what He has called them to. Follow along as Pastor Jeff preaches “Community and Renewal” from Ephesians 4:17-24.

Paul Carter’s Holy Week Messages From The Gospel Of Matthew (Orillia)

On Palm Sunday Pastor Paul preached on the story of Mary’s anointing of Jesus at Bethany asking the essential question: how much is Jesus worth to you? How you answer that question will determine your approach to the cross. You can find that message here.

On Good Friday Pastor Paul preached on perhaps the most difficult verse in the New Testament. “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46 ESV) What does it mean to speak of God forsaking Jesus? What happened on the cross between noon and 3 pm? What did Jesus experience? What did that accomplish? You can find that message here.

On Easter Sunday Pastor Paul preached on the central thrust of Matthew 28: “Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell” (Matthew 28:6–7 ESV). Come and see. Go and tell. That is clearly the main theme of the chapter. We must get our facts straight and we must get our message out. Pastor Paul examines the passage in light of those two concerns. You can find it here.
