Every week we want to bring to your attention expository, Gospel-centred sermons from pastors across Canada. We hope that you become familiar with some of the faithful ministers of the word in our nation. We also hope that you will be edified on your daily commute or whenever you listen to these messages. We lastly hope that you learn about the churches where these pastors minister, so that you can easily find Gospel-centered, expository churches in your region.

George Sinclair on Ruth 2 (Ottawa)

Canadians love Rom Coms and feel good movies. We love happy endings where justice is done and the heroes fall in love. But at the same time, these movies are viewed as “escapist” and “not realistic”. Ruth  2, on the surface a surprisingly contemporary “feel good” story, is a profound entrance way into the stories we love and how the Gospel shapes the story of our life.

Here’s the link to George’s sermon.

Paul Carter on 1 Peter 1:6-12 “Rejoicing In The Christ Of Scripture” (Orillia)

In this second sermon in the “Faith Under Fire” series Pastor Paul Carter looks at the Apostle Peter’s counsel to a group of people about to go through a storm. He tells them to hold on to what they have and to keep their eyes on Christ. You can find it here.

Dan Thomson on 2 Samuel 11 (Charlottetown)

It’s interesting that 2 Samuel 11 is so void of emotion or intent by the characters. The author records it so matter-of-factly that it’s almost awkwardly impersonal. There’s no emotion, no romance, no indication of mutual consent; we’re left to only focus on the deed.

David took another man’s wife, committed adultery, and sent her away. The only words from Bathsheba’s mouth were “I am pregnant.” The narrative continues about David’s intent to sin, Uriah’s refusal to indulge in home comforts while his fellow soldiers – David’s army – can’t.

The Lord is not mentioned in this passage until the very end.

Some takeaways are:
– Leaders will fail
– We all need accountability
– Acknowledgement of sin and failure is key
– We can’t fool an omniscient God
– This example is a warning for us
– We all need to check our hearts and character and recognize sin for what it is.

Clint Humfrey on Philippians 3:20 (Calgary)

As people talk about immigration, nationalities, and borders many forget that a passport to the city of God is the most important possession anyone can have. Only disciples of Jesus Christ are welcomed within the gates of that city.

Here is the sermon link.
