Every week we want to bring to your attention expository, Gospel-centred sermons from pastors across Canada. We hope that you become familiar with some of the faithful ministers of the word in our nation. We also hope that you will be edified on your daily commute or whenever you listen to these messages. We lastly hope that you learn about the churches where these pastors minister, so that you can easily find Gospel-centered, expository churches in your region.

Rob Godard on “Called From Slavery to Slavery” from Romans 6:15–23 (Surrey)

When the Bible uses the term “Slavery” as a mark of those who follow Jesus it is a shock. This passage discusses our freedom in Christ as a freedom for Christ, and is one every healthy believer must have as a core part of who they are. You are set free from sin, to obedience that leads to righteousness. As such, present yourselves to God, and follow Him!

Main Points from this message:

– Everyone who sins is a Slave to sin

– Sin is a horrible Master

– Sin shames it’s subjects

– Sin leads to death

All the messages in this series can be found here.  CBC also live streams all services from 10:30am PST on CBC LIVE

Jeff Eastwood on “Community and Glory”  from Ephesians 3:14–21 (Charlottetown PE)

Prayer can be a struggle by times, and for a number of reasons- busyness, distractions, repetitiveness, etc. Rarely, though, do we think of doubt and shallowness as being part of that struggle, but our innate self-centeredness often turns our prayers into nothing more than a recitation of our wants and best case scenarios. Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 3:14-21 stands in stark contrast to this mentality as he prays for strength, love, and perfection in the Ephesian believers, all to the glory of God. Follow along as Pastor Jeff preaches on “Community and Glory”, encouraging all of us to look up and out in prayer.

George Sinclair from John 18:28–40 (Ottawa)

This is a spiritually dangerous text for Christians. It is easy for us to slip into thinking how it applies to everyone except ourselves. At the same time, part of what Jesus says is so shocking and against Canadian culture that we are silent or try to soften is claim. Let’s look at what John says, prepared to have him speak to our own hearts first.
