Canadian evangelicalism faces some of the same challenges that Canadian society faces more generally, such as the pressures and effects of living so close to the United States. While we love our American friends, one of the unfortunate effects on Canadian Christians is that, by virtue of the volume (in both senses of the word) of America-centric content, we tend to be more aware of American history than our own. It takes an intentional effort to buck this trend.

In light of this reality, we at TGC Canada want to do our part to help our fellow Canadian evangelicals to know our own history better. So we commissioned a series of six articles to be written about Canadian revivals, spanning from well before confederation to as recently as the 1990s. That these stories are not better known, remembered, and celebrated is a tragedy. If we don’t remember them, who will?

Canadian Christians need to know the stories of how God has moved in powerful ways across our land—perhaps in your very town, region, or province. And driving all of this is the deep conviction held by all of us at TGC Canada that God can do it again.

May these stories drive us to earnest prayer, asking the Lord, “Will you not revive us again”? (Ps. 85:6) and crying out, “Oh that you would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains might quake at your presence” (Isa. 64:1).

Over the next year, we’ll be releasing one article every two months in this series. The first article will be released on October 26 and will bring us to 18th-century Newfoundland and the dynamic gospel ministry of Laurence Coughlan.
