This article aims to help Christians practice their theology by providing contacts for local governments. Over the past months, The Gospel Coalition Canada has provided articles that outlined how many reformed Christians in the past have related to governing authorities. Bradford Littlejohn, an expert in this area, described a reformed resistance theory and its application (here and here).

To make the case that we should use this theology to contact our local leaders, I recently wrote an article somewhat unimaginatively titled: Appealing to the Lesser Magistrate in 2021. The basic idea is that Christians should use lower forms of government (mayors, MLAs, etc.) to persuade or resist higher levels of government (Premiers, PM, etc). Such an approach balances our Christian responsibility to honour and to submit to authorities while using those authorities for the sake of the public good.

To help move this process along, The Gospel Coalition Canada wrote an open letter to the Premiers and provided a template letter to send to MPPs/MLAs. The letter and template are available here in both English and French. If you use this template (or the french version), be sure to modify it to make sense of your local setting.

As a further resource, I am here listing how to send such letters to local leaders Province by Province and Territory by Territory. This is a work in progress, and I will continue to update it over the next day or so with appropriate listings. You can refer back to this article in a few days if your Province/Territory is not yet listed. I hope to have it complete ASAP.
