The Timothy Trust is thrilled to be part of The Gospel Coalition’s upcoming national conference in Vancouver and we wanted to tell you a little about the ministry and the pre-conference event itself.

Who is The Timothy Trust?

The Timothy Trust exists to equip expository Bible preachers and teachers for the revitalization of the Canadian Church.

Expository preaching and teaching happens when the meaning of the message preached is the meaning of the passage preached. It’s preaching, as Dick Lucas has put it, “that takes the text seriously.”[1]

Our core conviction is that God works powerfully through his living Word (2 Tim 3:16-17; Heb 4:12) as it is faithfully taught and proclaimed.

The Timothy Trust is working to establish a culture of rightly handling the Word of Truth (2 Tim 2:15) throughout Canadian pulpits, churches, Bible studies, and more for the glory of God that the people of God might know the Son of God by the power of the Spirit of God.

The Timothy Trust sets out to do this in three central ways. Like a three-legged stool, the Timothy trust equips Bible preachers and teachers to handle the Scriptures expositionally through our conferences, courses, and content.

Our conferences include National Conferences hosted in Ottawa, ON and Vancouver, BC, regional preaching conferences, and workshops in Vancouver, Calgary, Ontario, and Prince Edward Island.

Our courses include a seminary accredited year-long course on how to go from Biblical text to Christ-Centered sermon called the Timothy Course that is hosted at the Metropolitan Bible Church in Ottawa but is accessible online all across the country and throughout the world. The course, taught primarily by Dr. Jonathan Griffiths, myself, George Sinclair, and others, explores introductory principles in expositional preaching, how to handle the various genres in Scripture, preaching Christ from all of Scripture, and more. The course is patterned after Paul’s words to Timothy, that “what we have heard from him in the presence of many witnesses, entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also” (2 Tim 2:2).

Our content, accessible for free to download on our website, or to stream on YouTube provides great tools and resources for expositional sermon preparation, Bible study, and text handling. These tools are provided by seasoned expositors from around the world including DA Carson, Alistair Begg, Ray Ortlund, Josh Moody, Philip Ryken, and more.

What Is Happening at the Pre-Conference Event?

At the pre-conference event, Rev. Canon David Short will be doing sessions on Preaching the Whole Counsel of God (Acts 20:26). If we are to be workers approved by God (2 Tim 2:15), we cannot “shrink from declaring” to God’s blood bought people “anything profitable” (Acts 20:20). David’s seasoned wisdom on “preaching the Word in season and out of season” (2 Tim 4:2) is sure to help us become “sober-minded” ministers who are better equipped to endure hardship, to preach the gospel all the time, and to discharge all the duties of our ministries (2 Tim 4:5).

Following these equipping sessions there will be time for a Q & A panel discussion including Dr. Jonathan Griffiths, and lunch together, and we would love to have you join us. The pre-conference is sure to provide rich opportunity for like minded servants of Christ to connect and be refreshed for the work of ministry.

You can register for the TGC Conference here and remember to select the Timothy Trust pre-conference event!
